On October 20, 2023, Sojourn Montrose celebrated 10 years of ministry. In that time, we’ve met in 5 different locations in the-difficult-to reach neighborhood of Montrose. In order to root in this neighborhood and be a gospel presence in Montrose, we need your help.
Sojourn Montrose is in the process of purchasing a church building in the neighborhood! We need significant capital for a downpayment to allow us to purchase and renovate this property. The purchase price is 1.1 million dollars, and we estimate the renovation to cost between $200,000 and $400,000. The church was built in 1958, and while the building has been faithfully maintained, it needs renovation for safety, accessibility, and usage for our full congregation, including children.
Our goal is to raise over $300,000 to purchase, save, and overhaul a 65-year-old church in our neighborhood.
To do this, we need your help.
To strategically reach Houston, the church cannot abandon Montrose. Montrose is incredibly post-Christian and remains the cultural heartbeat of Houston. Sojourn Montrose is the last church plant to attempt to root in Montrose, and by God’s grace, we remain faithfully present. To continue in ministry here, we believe that purchasing this old church and overhauling the interior is a strategic and faithful step that will secure the next few decades of ministry in a neighborhood that remains hostile to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Building Project
The church has accepted our offer of 1.1 million dollars, which is roughly the value of the land on which she sits - 3708 Newhouse St. Houston, TX 77019.
The new church sanctuary has space for 240 adults and kids space for 40. We would likely hold two gatherings.
We are in the process of securing a loan to both purchase the property and overhaul the interior of the church.
We need to fundraise a substantial amount for the downpayment: 30% of the loan.
We close on the loan in March of 2024, provided we have the downpayment
In 10 years, Sojourn Montrose has:
Gone from 15 members to just over 140 adults and children.
Gone from 1 Neighborhood Parish to 9 (with 3 new Neighborhood Parishes scheduled for 2024).
Gone from 1 ordained pastor to 5 pastors (2 staff pastors, 3 lay pastors).
Gone from 2 deacons to 18 ordained deacons.
Directly sent 2 churches to be planted in different parts of Houston.
Indirectly planted 3 churches alongside our sister churches of Sojourn Houston.
Worshipped in 5 different physical locations over 10 years, and online during the pandemic.
Seen over 33 members purchase property in Montrose.
