MORE INFORMATION

  • -Sojourn Montrose has raised over $400,000 toward this project.
-In turn, the downpayment for the purchase of the building was exactly $400,000.
-During the renovation project, Sojourn Montrose will pay double rent, thereby quickly draining our reserves.
-Our fundraising efforts will continue for a short time in order to wisely and sustainably bridge this gap.

  • -On March 25, 2024, Sojourn Montrose closed on the purchase of 708 Newhouse St. Houston, TX 77019.
-Renovations on the space will begin before the summer, with a target of moving in by Fall 2024.
-The new church sanctuary has space for over 200 adults and kids space for 35.
-The renovation will completely update the interior of the space with beautiful and minimal design that honors the aesthetic era of the and allows our church to maximize usage.

  • In 10 years, Sojourn Montrose has:
-Gone from 15 members to just over 140 adults and children.
-Gone from 1 Neighborhood Parish to 9 (with 3 new Neighborhood Parishes scheduled for 2024).
-Gone from 1 ordained pastor to 5 pastors (2 staff pastors, 3 lay pastors).
-Gone from 2 deacons to 18 ordained deacons.
-Directly sent 2 churches to be planted in different parts of Houston.
-Indirectly planted 3 churches alongside our sister churches of Sojourn Houston.
-Worshipped in 5 different physical locations over 10 years, and online during the pandemic.
-Seen over 33 members purchase family property in Montrose.

  • -As stated in the fundraising update section, we still need financial help!
    -
The period of rent and mortgage payments has begun, which is depleting our reserves.
-A monthly gift beginning now and ending in November would help us immensely.
-Alternatively, one time gifts make a huge impact.

To strategically reach Houston, the church cannot abandon Montrose. Montrose is incredibly post-Christian and remains the cultural heartbeat of Houston. Sojourn Montrose is the last church plant to attempt to root in Montrose, and by God’s grace, we remain faithfully present. To continue in ministry here, we believe that purchasing this old church and overhauling the interior is a strategic and faithful step that will secure the next few decades of ministry in a neighborhood that remains hostile to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Success is faithfulness for decades.
